Strata - Siedlung Höli

A reorganization within the existing buildings of the Höli housing estate in Scherz, Aargau, is intended to accommodate more than twice as many people in the future as it does today. While generating a greater diversity of living arrangements beyond the nuclear family, it also renegotiates the boundary between the private and the public, the inside and the outside. Over time, the residents extend their living space to the outside, gradually opening up their homes to the garden and their neighbors. The open space becomes part of the living area and dissolves into the public green border. A winter garden in the southeast is the main actor in this seasonal transition and becomes a layer of dwelling and insulation, which, together with heat-capturing curtains, enables residents to individually regulate indoor temperature and create zones of different warmth.
