We take all the material aspects into consideration: the geology, material sourcing, different physical properties, its associated craftsmanship, specialised technologies, and its cultural and political history, we can deploy the full potential of the inherent qualities of matter and our way of working it, in what we call MATERIAL GESTURE.
We invite the participants to dive into our material research archive to formulate their own project synopsis and elaborate on existing researches. Our archive consists of the following topics (and its associated experts and places of production): GYSPUM, SITE: KYUSHU (and its geology), WEAVING AND BONDING, STONE, TEXTILE, CHANGE, GLASS.
The general topic of this semester’s Master Thesis is: DURABILITY AND/OR CHANGE?, and is seen as a critical agent for the development and formulation of your own agenda, to help you define your gestures of making and working with material(s) through research, experiments and in close collaboration with experts and material producers.
