Mobile Augmented Reality for Aided Manual Assembly of Compressed Earth Block Dwellings

Tutors: Prof. Dr. Kristina Shea, Yu Zhang, Maxime Escande

How does an architect transfer the knowledge of the building's intention and assembly? Can a mobile phone application reach the same potential for knowledge transfer of critical housing for the growing immediate need, skipping the blueprints, direct to those disadvantaged. This research aims to address the challenge of access to adequate and affordable housing in low income countries and to bridge the gap of accessibility to high tech equipment by developing a mobile augmented reality (AR) application as a human instructed manual fabrication tool, combined with an existing novel design and construction process for low-cost sustainable Compressed Earth Block (CEB) dwellings.
