Welcome to Zürichberg

Dear Mom,

In the last letter I wrote you I told you how much I wanted to begin soccer. This week was the good one, I finally took time to go to this ASVZ sport center which is quiet far from the city but very well connected. The place is called Zurichberg and is surrounded by the forest, it’s a little piece of nature attached to Zurich city center.

As I went out of the tram, I knew something had changed. The smell was different and the atmosphere too. This big plaza which was an empty place before is now covered by a glass roof. The new restaurant's sliding doors were open, the terrace extended to the outside brought the smell of the food to my nose. Behind me, in the shop, some people were buying some mushrooms coming from the forest and also vegetables which are planted in the new green house in front of the cemetery. Each building has his green house on the top of a timber structure which is insulated. This allows the shop to grow some herbs on its second floor. Everything is local, I've even heard that they use fertilizer coming from the animal’s leftovers of the zoo and that they re-use the rain water along the steel pillars of the structure to water the Greenhouse plants.

The sun was shining, people were going to the zoo with their children. Last time I came to the zoo I remember feeling lost when I arrived at the tram station. Now, along the alley of trees they’ve build another roof, smaller, which follows the topography of the street. It is not only a simple promenade but it is also covering some stands to watch the sport games. What I liked while walking through this promenade is that it’s half covered and half under the trees. The stone floor allows people to walk with their stroller without any problem. In front of the cemetery I could feel the smell of the tulips. Yes, it’s already spring and there is a lot of people buying flowers for the cemetery or for themselves.

My first soccer training was very funny, I met other students. After the game we did some stretching in the upper part of the library, it's a very peaceful place. I didn't know about this new library, I will probably study for my exams there, it's the same structure as in the restaurant but with a different function. I could recognize the same sliding doors which allows the students to study outside. Coming back to the tram station we decided to stop for a beer where I met people working at home of FIFA. It was great to share about our common passion.

Well, I think this letter is already long enough but I had to share this great day with you.

Hope to see you soon.

Emma.
