Honey, I shrunk the house - Three Tools for Egerkingen

Egerkingen expects a residential growth by 50% until 2025 but has no building plots left. To handle this growth, the potential has to be found in the existing elements of this suburban fabric - the home, the garden, the garage. Focus of the project lies in the neglected spaces, the hold back rooms, and the possibilities hidden under misconceptions, missing ideas or lacking alternatives. This huge potential can be unlocked with the Three Tools for Egerkingen.

All The Small Things alter the organisation of a home with minor changes and no volumetric intervention to create more housing units.Eden für Jeden activates gardens that are necessary to make potential living space more attractive and even accepted when the belonging outside space comes with spatial quality, privacy and connection. Garage to Guest house transforming garages to commonly shared space for guests of the residents will free up rooms, people have reserved in their houses. With an self build approach ideas have to be easy and feasible. Sharing knowledge and muscles within the neighbourhood, it is supported by the municipality with infrastructure, supplies and mediation.

The tools appearance giving gentle hints that something is going on. A new double postbox, a shared garden or a garage door that has an odd look now. By negotiating and reprogramming the potential spaces, residents find alternatives within their neighbourhood, new people find a home in the existing and the spaces in-between get new value. Gradually this idea leads to an altered layout of the realms. With the tools applied, the expected residential growth can be absorbed by the built fabric, spatial quality formed and communing and cohabitation initiated.
