The project for the international school of design aims to an open cultural platform more than an institutional building. A place not only for the very few students part of an intellectual elite but also for the neighbourhood’s inhabitants. As newly built neighbourhoods in Shenzhen lack urban qualities and their reason of being is at risk, as well as that of expansion per se, it is necessary to take the opportunity to create inclusive programs within public space and think of buildings in terms of social durability.
