The area along Thurgauerstrasse is currently characterized by high vacancies, unattractiveness and an inability to transform itself and generate a quality urban setting.
Around the perimeter, Zurich North is growing, fueled by an ongoing gentrification
and displacement in the historical city center.
The aim of this project is, to transform Thurgauerstrasse radically, make it home
and workplace for a marginalized and gentrified generation and create a new
quality centrality in the urban setting of Zurich north.
The transformation process consists of three strategies, being realized
sequentially:
1. The existing buildings are brought together as one entity
2. Spacial reorganization of the site and the introduction of urban production.
The Baulandreserve is being left as a common public green space, the
ground floor of the existing office buildings serves productive uses and the
upper floors are programmed with a hybrid setting of public and residential
uses (immediate realization)
3. Once the site is established and has gained attraction, a radical densification
can take place
